Kilwa historical site is located on the south coast of Tanzania. Its history which goes back to medieval time is quite complex and fascinating. This is because the place has been many things to different people. At one time Kilwa was a thriving city state of international fame, at another it was an insignificant settlement.

At one time it was peacefully ruled by foreigners while at other times it was a center of rebellion against foreigner rule. While Kilwa had a high regarded Islamic school that attracted students ~ both girls and boys as from Tabora, Songea and Mozambique, its locals were the first to fervently believe that which craft could offer them protection against bullets. So it is not surprisingly that Kilwa, where everyone had once wanted to be later on become a place where officers were being transferred to if they were being punished.
